Haiti Song

Verse 1
Travelled to Haiti
The newspaper had the bad news
Decided to get on a plane
Thats the only thing I wanted to do

Chorus
A light of hope just died
Darkness cracked at noon
Destruction hits again
Haiti don't be said
Chaos rumbles through
Innocent eyes and what they've been through

Haiti

Right now I am on my way to Port-au-Prince, Haiti! I have so many mixed feelings: excited, angry, scared, determined, confused, and some other feelings that I can't describe. There was an earthquake that was a magnitude of 7.0 that happened not to long ago. It was on the news, in the newspaper,...... everywhere. I was SO heart broken when I heard about it. I knew if I had the chance to go to Haiti, I would want to help in all the ways I could. Well, I got my chance and thats exactly what I am going to do. I'm now in the airport. It was pretty crowded, but I got through. The sight of all the Haitians made me think about how most of these people, now, are homeless, or have lost someone they had loved. I met up with a lady named Laflippe Mrie Guerda. After introducing ourselves she said we would get right to work by helping at a homeless shelter. I asked her where I was suppose to put my stuff, and she just said, "You bring all that with you." I must say my bags weren't the lightest, but I didn't argue.

When we got to the shelters I was devastated. I was at least expecting a building with walls. but no. The shelters were tents! I didn't really know how bad the earthquake had damaged Haiti. I guess I never imagined it could get that bad.

I am so busy helping Haiti. From going to an orphanage, to rebuilding houses and other things, to taking care of the homeless, that I don't have time to write in my journal on this adventure. I'm sorry journal. I am going to write a song instead. Sorry, can't write anymore. Bye bye!

Japan Song (Original Song)

Japan Song

Verse 1

This time around I’m traveling to Japan

I don’t know what’s gonna come ne-ext

Packing up and heading out at 6a.m.

I’m half asleep on the plane

Verse 2

Just arrived at the airport in Tokyo

Was burning hot just like Qata-ar

Unpacked looked at a map to see where I was

Then off I was to explore

Chorus

There’s hot springs that you can relax in

Dancing with traditional Japanese fans

Temples and musicals you’ve never seen before-o-r-o-r-o-r-o-r

Minogasenai akiramenai

Yume ni todoku made wa

So, mou sugu soko ni boku-tachi no

Verse 3

Went to the food market to see what there was

My stomach was growling all day

There was meat, fish, and other things that didn’t look great

So decided that I wouldn’t stay

Verse 4

Went to a restaurant called Takamura

Wasn't sure what to expect

Ate curry, noodles, fruit, and rice that where out of this world

My stomach felt heavy all day

Chorus

Mumbai Food Essay

Trying to get back home, the volcanic ash in the sky caused me to get stuck in Mumbai, India at about 9:00 p.m. Instead of being bored at the airport, and fretting over what I should do, I decided to go explore on a new adventure in the streets of Mumbai. A came across lots of food vendors across from a beach. It was loud, crowded, and crazy. I usually go to bed at this time, but there were even younger kids than me who were up this late, eating! It was really cool. I tried everything, except the meat place. I love trying new things, but I wouldn't say I am an adventurous eater, so it took me a while to try some of the food there, but finally I had tried everything that didn't have meat in it. I think my favorite food was the thing made out of an edible leaf, with lots of stuff in the inside like: dried fruits, shavings of coconuts, this pink stuff, syrup, etc. It had a very required taste I think to like it, but I did. Another thing that factored in to me liking the edible leaf thing was because it was good for you. Meaning it wasn't just healthy, it was actually good for your digestive system. It was very interesting. It is something I would like to try again. Something I didn't like was the Box of Red Vegetable Mix. I thought I would have loved it knowing what it is made out of, but something about it just didn't taste good to me. I don't know why.

I actually started getting very tired. By the time I felt my tiredness, it was about 10:00 p.m. Still it was just as crowded with little kids eating and running around. I was amazed at how they stayed up so late. I felt like I was going to fall asleep any second. I got this thing made out of shaved ice and fruit syrup hoping it would wake me up. It worked a little. I got brain freezes several times, and that woke up....kinda. After that I stayed at a hotel I found a across from the beach, and kind of near the airport. The next plan that was suppose to head in the way I wanted to go left at 10:00 a.m. At about 11:30 I couldn't keep my eyes open, so I headed of to where the hotel was, put my luggage down, and fell asleep. Next morning I got up, still with my yesterdays clothes on, and got on the plan. On the plan I fell asleep.....again.

Invisible Children Entry 3

After saying our good-byes to Borysko we headed back to our hotel. Again all of us went into the pool. I sat at the bottom of the pool just thinking about the whole day. It was very calming being underwater, and and I felt so lucky to be here.

The next day when I got up I decided to put on this new perfume my mom had packed for me. It smelled of warm vanilla, and was very calming. I kept it in my pocket. That day I met up with a girl named Grace. When I saw her the first thing I thought was beautiful. I thought she was so pretty, and she had such amazing facial expressions. I was in for a big surprise to hear about her past. Grace had a very sassy attitude that I loved. Sadly she couldn't speak that much English, so it was very difficult to understand her. I think she felt the same way about me speaking, but we didn't let that get in our way of our friendship. When we were talking one thing that really stuck with me was when she said "You smell good". At first I must admit I thought that was a little weird. Then I remembered about putting on the perfume. I told her that the smell was called warm vanilla, but I don't think she understood what the heck I was saying. I asked her if she wanted to try some. When she saw the perfume bottle, the first thing she did was smell it. Something that touched me was when she looked up she had this big smile on her face. It was very heart warming. I sprayed some on her, and while I was spraying she had her tongue sticking out. She was trying to taste it. I told her stop thinking that the perfume might be bad for her. She stopped, but she kept sniffing herself for a long time. Finally it came to her story of her past. She told us how she was abducted, and was raped for 3 years. She also told us while carrying a young baby on her back, a rebel shot the baby right off her back. She also got shot in the foot. Again I cried for what seemed like forever. While I was being a child having fun, making friends, going to school, Grace was being shot, and being raped. It turns out she is pregnant. After hearing that story I didn't know what to think. I just sat there listening and crying. Jason, Bobby, and Larry were crying too. It was a very heartbreaking story to hear. After finishing interviewing Grace we said our good-byes. I told her to never forget me, and she told me never to forget her. I told her, "How could I ever forget you!"

Invisible Children Entry 2

All the boys made it a lot of fun while I was unpacking. They totally took my mind of of it. After unpacking we went down for dinner. The sight of the eating room was beautiful. It had creative paintings on the walls, and there was this gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous chandelier right smack in the middle of the ceiling. When we got our food I was a little disappointed. I have to admit the food wasn't as good as my last trip to Italy, but it was food so I loved it. (I love food!!!!) Jason and I had spaghetti while Bobby and Larry had bean soup. I tried some of Bobbies bean soup and it was delicious. The taste was much better than the spaghetti.

The next morning we finally started our adventure. We decided to try interviewing kids who had escaped "The Bush". We found this one guy named Borysko. Borysko means warrior. I could see why they named him that. He was only 10 years old and was as serious and stiff as a stick. The feeling of seeing this poor boy like this gave me a feeling I could never forget.....even if I tried to forget it. He told us how he was with some friends playing out on the field, and how rebels surrounded them. They beat up one of his really good friends, and threatened him and the rest of his friends, and if they wanted to live and not get hurt they would have to follow them. Borysko's brother refused to go, and right in front of him they shot him. Borysko was only 6 back then so he went with them, along with 2 more of his friends, and one of his older sisters. Hearing this story was very sad, especially coming from the person who was actually in the situation. On the part where they shot his brother he started crying so hard. I couldn't help myself and cried with him. I even cried just as hard as he did. While crying I hugged him. The touch of him made me cry even more, because he was shaking from head to toe. After a while when I couldn't hear anymore I ran down to where we had parked the van. I hid in there while I cried. I had such mixed feelings in the van, I thought I would be the first person ever to die from just overwhelming feelings. I also was glad I was there, because then I could feel the pain that many kids in Uganda have to suffer everyday. I refuse to be sad forever though. I want to bring all the pain out in dancing, singing, and just happiness. I think that is the best thing to do with pain, and I think all the kids in Uganda feel the same way.

Invisible Children Entry 1

On February 6, 2010 I went to Uganda with a couple of my new friends Jason, Bobby, and Larry. All of us with no experience of traveling anywhere out of the country before, but still we felt like we had to go and show people what is happening there. When I was invited I was really excited, but my mother on the other hand was not so crazy about this idea. I didn't blame her, but I knew it was an amazing opportunity, and I would be able to experience something that not many other kids will ever experience. My mom knew this too, and there for let me go. I was very scared obviously, and my mom gave me a stuffed animal so that when ever I felt home sick or just felt sad I would able to hug that stuffed animal and feel better. The stuff animal was a beautiful orange, red, yellow tiger. Orange and yellow for being my favorite color, and it being a tiger because my mom is the year of the tiger. Also the year of the tiger was coming up. The sight of it was very heart warming, and was glad my mom gave it to me. When she drove me to the plane we sang in the car together. It was so much fun and I was glad that the airport was pretty far from where we live. When we got there we met up with Jason while Bobby and Larry were loading all the luggage. My mom and Jason talked for a while. I just sat there pretending to listen, even though I really was thinking about the adventure ahead. I was the youngest out of all of them, and they treated me as there younger sister, and I treated them as my older brothers. It was awesome. The plane ride was very long. Luckily I slept most of the way. So did all the boys. Almost the whole way I could hear Larry snoring! It was so annoying! Finally we arrived. I have to admit I was so scared. I was literally shaking from head to toe. It was a feeling that I will definitely not forget. Larry helped me calm down, and I was very thankful. When I stepped out of the plane the air smelled so different. It was a mix of smells that were kind of overwhelming. When we got our luggage we headed to this amazing hotel in the heart of Kampala. It was a very big hotel with a big outside pool, a big sweet with a flat screen TV, and with delicious food. It was called the Golf Course Hotel. http://golfcoursehotel.com. After we set our luggage down in our sweet we headed straight for the pool. It felt really good after being in a plane for so long, and the touch of the cool water helped me feel safe and calm. We had so much fun just in the pool, and that was just the beginning of my adventure. I got so much water in my mouth! It tasted horrible!!! The only reason I got water in my mouth was because Jason, Bobby, and Larry started to tackle one another. It was really funny though, and I just had to laugh. I wish I had video taped it. Lots of other kids were there too. I could hear the mixture of their laugh and my laugh put together. It was an amazing sound to hear and hope to share it with my family and friends. I started talking to this one girl who also was from America. She was really nice, and she had come to Uganda with her dad to try to help kids in need. We bonded right away and even found out that her sweet was right next to mine. Her name was Jesse. After a while we all decided that we should start unpacking before we went down for dinner. It was about 2:00 when we arrived at Uganda, but now it was about 5:00. I wasn't crazy about this idea and I have to admit I complained a little, but it is a lesson I am going to have to learn if I am ever going to travel, so I reluctantly did.

Italy: Lesson

Something I think I learned on this trip was there is always something and someone new waiting for you. I mean this whole experience was new. So I think my word for today, and for this trip is definitely "New".

Italy: Person

The line to get on to the plane felt like forever, but in the line I met a girl named Mariah who was my age. Just like me she was by herself with no parents. To past the time I decided to introduce myself to her. It turns out we both love dancing and singing. Talking with her too the 4 hour wait away. We even sat next to each other the whole way to Santa Barbara. She was such a nice girl, and kind of reminded me of me. I was very glad I met her, and wished I met her earlier.

Italy: Touch

Today is the day I am heading back to Santa Barbara. I am very sad, but also happy. I mean of course I want to stay, but I do miss my family, and home. For the last day we talked all day. I talked with so many of her relatives, but it was fun. I said my good byes to all of her relatives, and then Aliah's mom drove me and here out to the airport. I have to admit I did shed a tear when I said good bye to them, and the part I will remember that day is when Aliah hugged me. It is a feeling I won't forget. I will miss her so much. I mean she is already like my younger sister, who lives far away from me.

Italy: Smell

Its been 4 days. You can't imagine how much I've seen and heard, and how much I have bonded with Aliah. Today they decided to blind fold me and walk me around places I'v been, and I was suppose to guess where we were. I don't know who's idea that was, but it sounded fun. As long as they didn't take me near a high cliff or the ocean. So the first place they stopped was at the glass making store. I totally could tell because I could hear his hammer banging before I even walked into the store. The next one we went to was a museum called Doge's Palace. This I could tell because it was so crowded. Doge's Palace is in San Marco Square. We went to some other places that I guessed right.....again, but then finally we came to a place I couldn't recognize. The place smelled of all different kinds of flowers. When the took off the blind fold it was a place I had never been before, but one of the most beautiful places I have seen yet. We were at a flower garden called Lynne Leventen's! 2 words "breathe taking"!

Italy: Taste

After the glass place we all started to get hungry. By the time we found a good restaurant I was starving. We went to one of the fanciest restaurants in town. It was called Trattoria Ca’ D’Oro. Not only did they have amazing food, the view was AMAZING! It almost looked like you were on top of water, if you were in a certain angle. I obviously got spaghetti. It is one of my favorite foods, and this is where spaghetti is the best, so I couldn't resist. My friend had shrimp with this yummy sauce on top of it. It looked so delicious, but I am not really a shrimp person. For a drink I had a strawberry shake. So good! While eating and drinking we told jokes and stories. Mostly funny ones. The whole time you were eating you were laughing too.

Italy: Sound

I ran up to my friend, and met all her relatives. It was a blast. Thy all were so nice, and I even made some new friends that were my age. Who knew she was going to bring her whole family to greet me. ( by the way my friends name is Aliah). I was very happy. After we talked a little they decided they wanted to give me a detour of Italy. I thought that would be awesome, and so they did. First they showed me a really good store for clothing. They had such cute cloths. I decided to get some. My friend helped me choose only between 2 because I found 20 shirts that I loved, but they were all way to expensive. Next we went to this place where a man made animals and sculptures out of glass. I was so happy when they told me they were going to show me this place. I looked this place up on internet wishing about how I have to go there sometime, and my wish came true. It was amazing. I didn't get how he did it, and the thing that aggravated me the most was that he made it look so easy!!! I think we stayed there for at least 2 hours watching, and listening to the tinker of his hammer. It was such a sound that made me calm and relaxed, and watching and feeling the heat of the fire was a wonderful feeling too. I loved it!!!!

Italy: Sight

I am going to Italy!! My friend just moved to Italy in Venice, and I have decided to go visit her. My mom dropped me off at the airport, and then I was off. I have to admit I was nervous. First of all I don't know about their money, and could easily get ripped off. Second of all, I CAN'T SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE!! If my friend wasn't there I would probably not survive. Finally after it seemed like forever the voice said we were landing soon. I was so excited. I looked out the window watching the plane land. When it landed I jumped out of my seat, and tried to push to the front of the crowd.( It didn't work to well but I tried). Finally when I reached fresh air I saw my friend and her family waving and jumping, with flowers and balloons. I will never forget that sight. Never.
